My Latest Confections

Hi y'all! I know I haven't posted anything in over a year. It's been so busy with just everyday life that I have put this blog out of my mind. I never claimed to be a writer so I usually let my images speak for themselves. ;) After all, a picture is worth a thousand words! ;) Here are some images of my latest creations. I hope you enjoy!

Some of my cakes lead me into researching history and it is very interesting, I must say! This is what I came up with after a customer requested a cake designed around the Rough Riders theme. The birthday party was for a teenage homeschooled boy. Everything on this cake is edible. The guns, ammo belt and bullets are hand sculpted in gumpaste. The photos are "edible images".

This baby girl owl cake is my own original design. The owl is sculpted of rice crispy treats and decorated with handmade gumpaste pieces. The branches and flowers are made of gumpaste which I cut out using a pattern I drew by freehand.

I designed this cake for the daughter and niece of a very old friend of mine. Isabel and I met when we were about 14 years old back in the 1980's! She opened up a whole new world of fast food and packaged cuisine for me! She introduced me to Chic-fil-a, Steak-ums and brown sugar & cinnamon Pop Tarts and I will forever be grateful to her for that! (lol) To this day Chic-fil-a is still my fave and I think of Isabel every time I eat there! :-D

Isabel's main requirements for the cake design were the two names written in lower case, simple and elegant.
This is what I came up with.

Everything on this cake is edible.
The rose, pearls and name monograms are made of gumpaste and royal icing.

This rose is my own original design.

I designed this CakeCheeseCake Present for the wedding of the daughter of another old friend of mine.
The bride's mother made matching cupcakes and her father made a beautiful stand to display it all on.
My CakeCheeseCake Presents are completely edible little gifts.
They are made with two layers of cake and one layer of cheesecake in the middle.

Steampunk Victoriana

For this cake I needed to do research on Steampunk. I had heard of steampunk but needed more info in order to design this cake. My customer's specifications were teal, feathers and a top hat. After doing my research, this is the design I came up with. The hat is made entirely of gumpaste as well as the feathers, ribbons, cameo, gears and clock. The only inedible part on this cake are the three wires I must use to give the much needed support for the delicate feathers.
